Networked Classrooms
Almost all of the Registrar-scheduled classrooms and lecture Halls are wired for access to the campus network. These rooms are supported by Academic Technologies. Should you run into a networking emergency in these rooms, you should call 392-6683. Non-emergency requests for assistance can be made via their support ticket form.
Departmental conference rooms or computer labs are supported either by the local IT staff, or by CLASnet. In many cases, you will need to register any computer you wish to use in that room beforehand. Should you have a question or concern about these rooms, you may call 392-HELP or submit a ticket and request assistance. Ensure you note the specific room and problem, not your own office number.
Preparation Recommendations
It seems the more advanced the classroom, the more likely something will fail. To minimized the negative effect any such failure will have on your class, we make the following recommendations:
- Test your configuration in the classroom before trying to use it for teaching. If you have trouble finding your classroom unoccupied, and your class is held in Turlington, the Faculty Support Center has network jacks on the CLAS Turlington network you can use for this purpose.
- Have an alternative lesson plan in case of hardware problems. (Hard disks can crash, and network jacks get damaged).
In the event of a problem, please tell us. Don't assume either CLASnet or Academic Technologies will "just know" there's an issue. We'll provide our best effort to get the issue resolved before your class meets next.
