Classrooms in Carleton, Griffin-Floyd, Little, McCarty C, Rolfs and Turlington Halls have been wired for access to the campus network. This document will describe what you need to know to use the network jacks in the classrooms.
The MSC Multimedia carts should all be configured and ready to use--you should be able to just plug them into the network jack on the wall and go to work. For support with these computers, please call 392-MMUF.
In order to use your own computer in the classroom, it has to be registered with us, and configured to use the network in that building. Until you perform these steps, your computer won't work in that building.
If your office is in the same building as your class, and your computer's set up to work on the CLAS network in your office, it should work in the classroom without modification.
If your computer is not already registered in the building you're teaching in, or configured to work on the CLAS network, have your Department Contact submit a DHCP request AT LEAST A BUSINESS DAY before your class.
The classrooms are wired with standard RJ-45 twisted-pair Ethernet jacks. Your computer will a network card compatible with this jack.
You can reach CLASnet staff at 846-1990 from 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Outside of those hours, you may page CLASnet --the pager is active from 7:30am-midnight, seven days a week. Note: When you page, be sure to punch in your phone # after the 3 beeps! If a network jack is bad, it should be repaired by the next time your class meets. Keep in mind, that the problem might be with the computer you're using, or it's configuration, and not the network jack.
