UFAD Data Volumes and Remote Access
Under UFAD, faculty and staff will receive disk space for their HOME directory and WEB files. Units may also request disk space for graduate students. This space is to be used for persistent data relating to instruction, research, or administrative functions at the University of Florida. Unlike the local hard drive (C:), this space is secured against unauthorized access, and archived nightly to prevent against data loss due to hardware failures.
Network Drives on UFAD Computers
The HOME directory will map to the H: drive on any UFAD computer. For us to assign this space to individual users, they must be "related to" the department. In PeopleSoft, this is known as the Network Managed By (NMB) relation. Information on the NMB is available at http://opan.admin.ufl.edu/user_guides/NetManagedBy.htm.
The SHARE volume is mapped to S: for all users who log onto a on any CLASnet Windows computer. Inside this share, you will see individual folders for every department, center, lab, or inter-disciplinary project to which you are a member. However, you can only read or write to those folders to which you are associated.
CLAS users may have access to a WEB folder, which is mapped to I: on any CLASnet Windows computer, the contents of which are published to the college web server. The WEB space must be requested by either your unit's chair/director or your computer contact. Remotely, users may publish to this website via Kompozer.
Remote Access to the Network Drives
To access these data volumes remotely, you will need to install the UF VPN client software and log in using your Gatorlink username and password. On Windows computers, select the Start menu, select "Run...", type\\ad.ufl.edu\clas and press "Enter". When prompted for your username and password, enter your username as UFAD\username (ie, prepend "UFAD\"). You should then be able to browse to the volume paths listed below.
Volume paths
Using a Windows share system called DFS (Distributed File System), we can standardize the various folder names, no matter on which CLASnet server your data might reside.
| HOME | H: | \\ad.ufl.edu\clas\home\a\albert |
| SHARE | S: | \\ad.ufl.edu\clas\share |
| WEB | I: | \\ad.ufl.edu\clas\web\users\albert |
