Wireless networking on UF's campus is provided by UF's Computer and Networking Services (CNS). Personal wireless network access points (Linksys, Netgear, Apple Airport, etc) are not permitted. Such access points can interfere with the official UF access points, due to the limited number of usable channels in the 2.4GHz spectrum. In addition, many such personal access points include embedded DHCP servers, which will interfere with the official CLASnet DHCP servers.
Coverage maps and other information are available at http://net-services.ufl.edu/provided_services/wireless/index.html.
CNS will provide additional wireless access points on campus for a fee. If you desire wireless access in an campus building currently without wireless signal, please consult with CLASnet. We will work with CNS to obtain a price quote to install wireless service coverage for that location. Please note the recommended commercial wireless access points can run in excess of $1000, and CNS charges a recurring management fee.
